Working at Fairnielaw is an ongoing privilege. Prior to our involvement it was already a beautiful and much loved garden with strong structure and character.
Primarily, our role is to reimagine new areas; to facilitate the owners’ highly creative and imaginative vision of their garden, to help them realise it by providing design, horticultural and maintenance input.
The Beech Avenue (pictured below) marks the transition of the formal gardens to the orchard, woodland and pasture that lie beyond. The design combines elements of formality and strict geometry with loose romantic and naturalistic planting.
We continue to work in close partnership with the owners to ease the garden forward. Evolving areas include the grasslands; an experimental, stylised meadow; and the woodland. We hope to share more as the garden evolves over time. Fairnielaw is open regularly under the Scotland’s Garden scheme and is included in private garden tours of the UK.
